WEST SUFFOLK WOLVES AND MILDENHALL PIRATES BASKETBALL CLUB FORM A PARTNERSHIP!

Mildenhall Pirates are a local league mens team that has been running since 2012. Those 8 years have helped form great athletes like Bradley Day and Cameron Pooltan, who eventually joined our WSW programme too. Day and Pooltan both have great plans for the future, already beginning with athletic scholarships playing overseas! Mildenhall Pirates currently coach through ages 9 to senior men.

Mildenhall Pirates, like West Suffolk Wolves, want to increase and develop youth basketball throughout their area, and with each others support, the bigger the better thats all we can say..! This partnership involves a community schools programme, help with WSW athletic programme, a Mildenhall Pirates local youth satellite club, more advanced coaching, officials and referees and more importantly teamwork and friendship!

“Basketball is more than a game.
By both clubs working together it will heighten the joint ventures and visions of both teams, creating greater playing opportunities for all ages through the Mildenhall area. It’s all about making a difference to all that love the game of basketball,” Said Stephen Gunn, the Head Coach of Mildenhall Pirates.

Darren Johnson, head coach of WSW also said, “having known about the Pirates Basketball Club for some time through players Bradley Day, Cameron Pooltan and Chris Kent, it was great to finally speak with Stephen about both clubs and our visions for moving forward and doing so working together. The Pirates have a very good setup within the Mildenhall area; with our club starting community basketball initiatives throughout the West of Suffolk, it only seemed logical to work closely with an already existing basketball club operating in one of our focus towns. We are looking forward to working closely together and helping the Pirates expand as a club both on the court and in the Mildenhall community.”

On the 30th of June both club committee’s formed an agreement on how to move forward. With this in mind, together both clubs will create a more established basketball community within West Suffolk.
