County Upper Basketball got off to a flying start in their 2017-18 ABL campaign on Wednesday (11th October) afternoon, taming the Long Road Lions away from home, winning 50-116.
The standout performance of the day was from County Upper’s big man Bradley Day who finished with an impressive double-double of 31 points and 26 rebounds.
County Upper took the lead early with a series of direct, strong and aggressive plays to the basket resulting in easy layups and trips to the free throw line. This lead blossomed into a 10-32 advantage by the end of the first quarter.
Despite improved play from Long Road in the second quarter, they were never able to keep up with the pace set by the more athletic visitors, and so their lead continued to grow.
Long Road’s continued hard work through the third and fourth quarters they were unable to make an impact on the rhythm established by County Upper from the tip off.
“This was a great start to our ABL season” said Coach Johnson “We played with a lot of intensity both on the offencive end and defencive end. There are still a lot of areas we need to work on but am happy with were we are at just one game in. We will take on Moulton College next who are a stronger team that will challenge us a lot more. I am hoping we can learn from this game as we prepare for our game against Moulton.
Bradley Day was supported in scoring by Leon Neziri, Sam Kesinro and Stephan Petkovic with 13 points each
County Upper await their next fixture on November 1 against Moulton College.
