U18 Girls VS Barking and Dagenham. National League. National Conference.
County Upper hosted Barking and Dagenham over the weekend, in an exciting game County Upper were able to come out on top with a well-deserved 63 – 45 win.
The first half started strong for the home team as their defence limited B&D to just 6 points while their offence connected on 15 points. The second quarter saw both teams trading baskets finishing the quarter with County Upper winning by only two points 15 – 13 to take an 11-point lead into halftime 30 – 19.
The second half saw both teams again trading baskets with County Upper again taking a small four-point advantage 18 – 14 to increase their lead to 15 points 48 – 33. The final quarter saw County Upper do enough and seal the win.
CU was led in scoring by Lizzy Sanders with 28 points and supported by Jemima Kent and Kayleigh Brown with 18 points and 12 points respectively.
County upper will next be in action this weekend when they take on Northants Lighting away in Northamptonshire.
U16 Boys VS Kings Lynn and Brentwood Leopards Black. National League. East Conference
County Upper Wolves U16 boys had a busy weekend with a match on both Saturday and Sunday.
The Wolves came away with the win on Saturday, beating Kings Lynn Basketball Club 73 – 69. They looked to continue this on Sunday against the top of the league Brentwood Leopards Black, however, they were defeated 59 – 72 after a tough game.
Saturday’s game was closer than Coach Saunders would have liked, but the boys kept pushing to seal the win. Freddie Harris finished on 11 points, while Lewis French held his position as top scorer with an impressive 33.
Lewis managed to keep his title on Sunday’s game with 19, closely followed by Logan Frost with a final score of 18.
The boys play away next Saturday to Kings Lynn, where they aim to make it 2 out of 2 wins.
U14 Boys VS Southend Scorpions. National League. East Conference.
It was a slow and tense start to the match for the County Upper Wolves Under 14 boys, playing at home v Southend Scorpions, with first period scores of 9 – 6. Wolves dug deep, to eventually win by 47 points to 42.
The game was very physical as was the case at the Wolves last encounter with the Scorpions a month previous. Scorpions strongest player appeared to be N Clark, who used his physicality and shooting accuracy to help to keep his team in close contention with the Wolves throughout the match.
Top scorer for the Wolves was Ethan Rodgers with 13 points.
U14 Girls vs Southend Rockets. National League. South Conference
County Upper had an unfortunate defeat when they played away against a feisty Rockets team 58-40.
County Upper started strong in the first quarter, winning it by 4 points (16-12). County Upperhad reduced team numbers this week, which meant more time on the court and less rest time for each player. However, they managed to remain strong throughout the game and at half time the score was 31-26. County Upper played as hard as they could until the end and although they didn’t get the victory, they were a lot closer to it than when they last played this team.
The final score was 58-40.
