U16 Girls VS Northampton Titans. Central Conference. National League.
In a game of two halves County Upper faced off against Northamptonshire Titans at the weekend taking the win with a 79 – 48 Score line.
In a slow first quarter the visitors took a small three-point lead into the 2nd quarter 16 – 19. The Second Quarter was much the same but with County Upper gaining a slight advantage winning the 2nd quarter by 4 points 20 – 16 and taking a small 1-point lead into Halftime 36 – 35.
The second half saw a different County Upper team take the floor as they dismantled Northampton on both the defensive and offensive end of the floor as they scored 23 points on offence while only allowing the Titans to score 6 points of their own creating an 18-point advantage 59 – 41 leading into the 4th quarter. The 4th Quarter saw County Upper continue with the same momentum as they won the fourth quarter 27 – 7.
County Upper were led in scoring by Kayleigh Brown with 34 points and supported by Jemima Kent and Grace Spooner with 26 points and 11 Points respectively.
The U16 Girls will next be in action on the 18th January when they play Northants Lightning away in Northampton.
U16 Boys VS Cambridge Cats. East Conference. National League.
County Upper Wolves U16 boys were in action again this weekend, playing at home to Cambridge Cats II. Having led from the start the Wolves took the win with a final score of 79 – 35. Logan Frost finished with 11 points having a strong 4th quarter, while Lewis French kept up his high score rate finishing with 29. The U16 boys look to continue with another win on Saturday 18th January playing at home to Kings Lynn, with a 3:15pm tip.
U14 girls VS Bristol
Flyers. Conference South. National League.
In a hard-fought match against the Bristol team, County Upper lost by a small margin.
In the first quarter County Upper were in lead by 2 points, leaving the quarter 11-9. However, in the
second quarter they fell behind when the Bristol side picked up the pace, finishing the half 15-21. In
the second half County Upper started fighting back and closing Bristol’s lead, but Bristol fought back
leaving the score 23-35. In the final quarter things started to heat up, with Bristol giving away lots of
fouls and County Upper getting more aggressive offensively and defensively. County Upper got
closer and closer to Bristol’s score, winning the quarter by 7, but unfortunately fell short of catching
them. The final score was 40-45 to Bristol Flyers.
County Upper were led in scoring by Anna Cartwright with 19 points and Violet Jones with 8 points.
