U16 GIRLS CENTRAL CONFERENCE NATIONAL LEAGUE
County Upper dismantled Bracknell in both offence and defence as they took them down 65 – 45 at the weekend. Starting the game strong CU took a quick 11 point lead 19 – 8 before continuing this run into the second quarter as they increased their lead to 17 points leading into half time 37 – 20. Rotating the bench more in the second half saw Bracknell trade baskets with County Upper as County saw out the game. CU were lead in scoring by Grace Spooner with 25 points and supported by Jemima Kent with 20 points and Anna Cartwright with 14 points.
U16 BOYS EASTERN CONFERENCE NATIONAL LEAGUE
County Upper Wolves under 16 boys had a confident win at home to Essex Rebels II on Saturday, with a final score of 70 – 40. Wolves came out strong, keeping their lead throughout the game with impressive passes and solid defence. Top scorer was Lewis French with 21 points, while Jack Nichols finished with 11 points for County. County Upper Wolves will be aiming for another win on Saturday 23rd November at home against Brentwood Fire, 2:00pm tip.
U14 BOYS EASTERN CONFERENCE NATIONAL LEAGUE
County Upper Wolves under 14 boys won their match against Southend Rockets II this weekend with a final score of 81 – 23.It was a difficult match for the Rockets, starting with only 7 players, partly due to a late tip change.Top Wolves scorer was Tom Greenslade – Cross with 15 points. Top scorer for the Rockets was Dylan Scullane with 16 – scoring the majority of points for his team.Next game will be against Thurrock Hornets on Sunday 10th November at Ormiston Park Academy.
County Upper Wolves U14 girls vs Norwich Demons Southern Conference
In a nail-biting game against Norwich Demons, the U14 girls won a well-fought away game against a
Starting off the game quite slowly, Wolves were struggling with the conditions on the court – a
particularly bouncy backboard – as they finished the first quarter down 12-4. Starting the next
quarter, they started hitting the shots, equaling the points Demons scored, but unfortunately they
were still down by 8 at half time: 23-15.
Pushing through the 3 rd quarter Wolves succeeded in winning the quarter by one point and closing
the gap to a 7-point game: 35-28.
Finally those Wolves shots started going in. During the 4th quarter, a combination of tremendous
defense and incisive offence saw them draw ahead by a narrow margin. However, Demons
responded, limiting Wolves to winning the quarter by 7 and therefore leveling the score.
Going into overtime, it was a tense 5 minutes. Wolves came through, winning by one point, leaving
the final score: 52-53.
Wolves were led in scoring by Anna Cartwright with 29 points and Violet Jones with 12 points, but in
truth it was a great team effort to turn likely defeat into exhilarating victory.
