U16 Girls Game VS Brighton Cougars:
County Upper’s U16 Girls travelled a 2 ½ hour journey to the seaside town of Brighton on Saturday 3rd December. With the girls struggling to have the numbers again we went to the game with 8 players, with help from two U14 girls, Khamri and Zharia. It was a very difficult game to play but we kept on playing and slowly stopped the Cougars from scoring. Brighton won the game 89:11. Brighton now has won all 6 of their games with a 100% record. We knew going into the game it was going to be tough, but the girls showed great persistence and determination to forget about the score and concentrate on enjoying the game and working on their basketball.
Our top scorer was Moly Owen with 5 points and close behind was Megan Utting with 4 points. It took time for County to get into the game as Brighton was very quick from the start. Once Megan opened the scoring before the second half the girls felt even more determined.
Our main obstacle in this game was the fact that we couldn’t run the offencive and defencive plays as not all our team was there due to injury or other commitments. It is important to have all the girls turn up to practice so we can run our plays including the out of bounds play. Other than this the movement off the ball started to increase during the last few minutes of the third quarter and was very good during the last. The use of screens and driving to the basket occurred more when we started to find out feet in the game.
Overall, I felt the girls played well but there are still lots to learn from the game and a good foundation to build upon for the next time we meet. County U16 Girls’ next game is on Sunday 11th at Croydon Elite.
